OLGA TROFIMOVA GROUP

Olga Trofimova

Born in Russia, Olga Trofimova grew up in Switzerland (Geneva) were she studied classical piano from an early age, and then jazz trombone at the HEMU Jazz School in Lausanne. In 2013, she decided to move to New York City to get a deeper understanding of the tradition of jazz and study with some of the greatest musicians, among which Marshall Gilkes, Matt Penman, Jacob Garchik, Sam Yahel, Robert Sadin, Billy Harper... She composes for large ensembles and leads her own quartet Lîla. She's also a part of the European all female band SOFIA.

Jill Ryan grew up in the Bay Area studying music at the Marin School of the Arts in Novato, CA. Starting with classical flute, she later transitioned to the alto saxophone before realizing her passion for singing. In high school she was a member of the San Francisco Jazz All-Stars, The Berkeley Jazz School's big band and small ensemble, as well as the 2010 Monterey Jazz Festival's, Next Generation Jazz Orchestra. She received a full scholarship to attend at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City. She performs regularly around with her band GREAT TIME, whose eclectic blend of sound and style can be heard through her playing and singing. The group is currently working on their debut album entitled, GREAT ALBUM. Jill is also a member of Peter Apfelbaum's band, SPARKLER which recently released their debut EP on MOD Technologies.

Having received his first piano lessons at the age of six, Israeli native and New York based pianist Yaniv Taubenhouse graduated from the Thelma-Yellin high school of the arts in Tel Aviv.  Yaniv has performed extensively at different venues around the world such as, the Tel Aviv Museum, Salle Cortot hall (Paris), Walton Art Center (AR), Cornelia Street Cafe & The DiMenna Center For Classical Music (NY), and live performance broadcasts on NPR affiliate, KUAF, 91.3 FM, to name a few. Here from There is Yaniv's debut release as a leader, which was released in December 2014 on Fresh Sound Records to acclaimed reviews.

At age 21, Bryan Qu is an unquestionably modern voice in the New York music community. Since taking up the saxophone, Bryan has focused his studies under the tutelage of many innovative musicians such as Reggie Workman, Oliver Lake, Tony Malaby, Jacob Sacks, Mark Shim, and Ellery Eskelin. Bryan has been featured at music venues and festivals in North America such as the Jazz Gallery,  BAM, Roulette, the Ottawa and Edmonton jazz festivals, the Yardbird Suite, the Cellar, the Rex, and the Yukon’s Jazz on the Wing. Currently, Bryan is finishing his studies at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary music on full scholarship.

Even before moving to New York City in 2013, pianist James Francies had generated a well deserved buzz in the jazz arena. He is the youngest recipient of the American Federation of Musicians (AFM) President's Youth Award, DownBeat Magazine awarded him twice for Composition and Jazz Arrangement, his band opened for the legendary Jazz Crusaders reunion and he performed at Monterey Jazz Festival. GRAMMY nominated pianist Taylor Eigsti describes Francies as, "poised to become a major voice on the instrument. He has the passion, creativity and ability to be a real leader amongst his generation."

With his musical roots firmly planted in jazz and gospel, pianist Jonathan Thomas lives in multiple musical worlds including hip-hop, R&B, fusion, traditional and modern jazz, and funk. Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, he benefited from the city’s wide range of jazz veterans and swing-rooted tradition. Creative influences such as Ahmad Jamal, Oscar Peterson, Kenny Kirkland, Robert Glasper, Brad Mehldau lend their sound to his style.
